Returning the water to Bridell, 22nd June, 2023

In May 2022 I travelled to Wexford, Ireland carrying water collected from a spring next to the church where I was baptised, a church dedicated to St David. On the 22nd June 2022 I poured that water into a newly re-instated well at Killagowan, on the pattern day of St Mochua to whom the well was dedicated. Mochua was St Aidan’s successor as Bishop of Ferns in AD 692. On returning to Wales I wrote a short essay about these actions and their deeper wisdom.

On June 22 2023, St Mochua’s Day, water was returned from the well at Killagowan to the spring beside the Church at Bridell.

Ym mis Mai 2022 teithiais I Lwch Garmon, Iwerddon gyda dŵr roeddwn i wedi casglu o ffynnon gyferbyn i’r eglwys lle cefais fy medyddio, eglwys oedd wedi cysegru at Dewi Sant. Ar y 22ain o Fehefin tywalltais y dŵr hwnnw i mewn i ffynnon yng Nghilagowan oedd wedi ei’ adfer, ar ddiwrnod phatrwm Sant Mochua, i'r hwn y cysegrwyd y ffynnon. Roedd Mochua yn olynydd i Sant Aidan fel Esgob Fearna yn AD 692. Wrth ddychwelyd i Gymru ysgrifennais draethawd byr ynglŷn â’r gweithredoedd yma a’u doethineb dyfnach.

Cyhoeddwyd y traethawd yma yn Fehefin 2023 mewn cyfres o lyfrau o deitl, Holy Wells of Wexford and Pembrokeshire gan lyfrau Parthian ar ran prosiect Cysylltiadau Hynafol. Mae’n bosib prynu copi o’r traethawd o wefan Parthian.
